Opel Mokka is a front-wheel drive five-door crossover of a subcompact class, combining a spectacular design, a solid interior, as well as modern technical and technological "stuffing" ... Its main target audience is, first of all, residents of large cities (regardless of gender and age), following all modern trends ...

The second generation Opel Mokka, which lost the X prefix in the name (it appeared in 2016 after the restyling of the first generation car), made its official debut on June 24, 2020 during an online presentation, and this SUV was completely and completely developed under the patronage of the concern PSA.

After the "reincarnation" the car changed in a truly dramatic way - it tried on a spectacular look, acquired more "light" proportions, decreased in size and "lost" more than a centner, received a progressive interior and "armed" with an electric drive, while retaining traditional gasoline / diesel options.

Externally, Opel Mokka looks attractive, original and modern, and its appearance echoes spectacular design solutions, balanced proportions and laconic lines. The distinctive front of the five-door "flaunts" stylish LED headlights, combined into a single element with a radiator grille called "helmet visor", a massive bumper, and its lean rear is crowned with beautiful boomerang lanterns, a relief trunk lid and a "blown" bumper.

In profile, the crossover is distinguished by harmonious, sporty fit and graceful outlines - a sloping roofline, a powerful "shoulder" zone, expressive "folds" on the sidewalls and huge flourishes of wheel arches, emphasized by "off-road" linings made of unpainted plastic.

In terms of its dimensions, the second generation Mokka corresponds to the parameters of a subcompact class by European standards: the car is 4155 mm long, of which the center distance extends to 2557 mm, and the width and height reach 1785 mm and 1600 mm, respectively.

Interior

Inside, the SUV meets its inhabitants with an attractive, modern and visually "adult" design made in the Opel Pure Panel concept - in front of the driver there is a single unit that combines a 12-inch display of the virtual instrument cluster and a 7- or 10-inch (depending on the configuration) touchscreen of the information and entertainment center. Well, a couple of screens are complemented by traditional controls - a relief multi-steering wheel with a slightly beveled bottom rim, hot keys of the media system and a laconic air conditioning unit with ordinary buttons and handles.

Formally, the second-generation Opel Mokka interior has a five-seat layout, but, apparently, in fact, four will be most comfortable here. There are armchairs in the front with well-defined lateral support rollers, wide adjustment ranges and heating, and in the back there is a comfortable sofa with a minimum of amenities.

The trunk of a subcompact crossover has the correct shape and quite a good volume - 350 liters in normal condition. The second row of seats folds down in two asymmetrical sections into a completely flat area, more than doubling the load compartment capacity.

Specifications

So far, only an electric version of the SUV called Mokka-e is presented - its front wheels are driven by an electric motor that generates 136 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. The power unit is "powered" by blocks of lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 50 kW / h, located under the floor of the passenger compartment, as a result of which the SUV is able to overcome about 320 km on a single charge in the WLTP cycle.

How quickly the crossover exchanges the first "hundred" is not yet reported, but its maximum speed does not exceed 150 km / h. By default, the car is supplied with an on-board charger with a capacity of 11 kWh, due to which it takes only half an hour to "fill the tanks" to 80% of the 100-kW terminal.

It is worth noting that traditional motors will also be offered for the five-door - according to preliminary data, it will be equipped with a 1.2-liter gasoline "turbo-engine" generating 100-150 hp, and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel developing 100-130 hp.
There are two gearboxes - 6-speed "mechanics" or 8-band "automatic", four-wheel drive is not provided.

Design features

The second "release" of the Opel Mokka is based on the modular "bogie" CMP of the PSA concern and has a monocoque body, which largely consists of high-strength steel grades.

An independent MacPherson-type suspension is mounted on the front axle of the car, and a semi-independent structure with a torsion beam (“in a circle” with transverse stabilizers) is mounted on the rear axle.

In the "base" the crossover relies on a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with an active electric control amplifier. All wheels of the car are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated at the front), which work in conjunction with ABS, EBD and other "chips".

Options and prices

Production of the Opel Mokka of the second generation should begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, and the cars will reach European dealers only at the beginning of 2021, and immediately in both conventional and electric modifications (for which, according to preliminary data, they will ask for ≈35 thousand euros) ... It is quite possible that an SUV will appear in Russia, but there is no official confirmation of this yet.

Rich equipment is declared for the car: front and side airbags, wheel rims measuring 16-18 inches, fully LED optics, adaptive cruise control, virtual instrument cluster, ABS, ESP, dual-zone climate control, heating of all seats, monitoring of blind spots, lane tracking system, media center with 7- or 10-inch screen and much more.
