Geely GS is a front-wheel drive cross-hatchback "golf" -class (aka "C-segment" according to the European classification), which the company itself prefers to call "city SUV", combining expressive design, modern interior, "raised" ground clearance and a rich set of options ... The main target audience of the car is young people who are focused on sports aesthetics and do not want to pay money for equipment that is useless in the city ...
At the end of April 2016, the Chinese automaker Geely presented the serial version of the new crossover (although, in fact, it is just a "raised" hatchback) Emgrand Cross, which later became known in its homeland as Emgrand at the end of April 2016 at the end of April 2016. GS. The car, based on the Cross Concept shown in 2014, received a modern design, decent technology and a wide range of options.
At the end of spring 2019, the cross-hatchback underwent an update, as a result of which it was "refreshed" on the outside, received minor adjustments on the inside, acquired new equipment and, most importantly, "armed" with a new 1.5-liter turbo engine, working in tandem with a 7-band " a robot ". And in September of the same year, the five-door finally made it to the Russian market, albeit only in the “pre-reform” guise called GS.
Exterior
Outwardly, Geely GS, thanks to the efforts of Peter Horbury, who previously "painted" Volvo cars, came out nice and well, although it did not do without citations at all. The dynamic shape of the five-door body, crowned with aggressive lighting technology, embossed bumpers and expressive stampings, give the car a sportiness, and a plastic edging around the perimeter and the lower edge of the trunk door raised to an indecent high-rise.
Dimensions and weight
The dimensions of the Chinese SUV do not go beyond the compact community: 4440 mm long, 1833 mm wide and 1560 mm high. The car has a 2700 mm wheelbase, and its ground clearance does not exceed 180 mm in the "stowed" state.
The curb weight of the car varies from 1288 to 1400 kg (depending on the modification).
Interior
The interior of Geely GS is designed in a laconic and modern style and is devoid of unnecessary clutter. The driver's workplace is represented by a multi-steering wheel "filed" in the lower part and an informative "instrument panel" with a small color display, and on the stylish center console there is an 8-inch screen of the multimedia complex and a well-arranged climatic "control panel".
Inside the car, solid plastics of an unusual texture are used, and the seats are dressed either in fabric or in leather.
The interior of the SUV demonstrates nice front seats with clearly protruding lateral support rollers and a rear sofa molded for two with a central armrest (and in terms of free space, the third one will most likely feel superfluous).
The trunk of the Geely GS is small - its volume in normal condition is only 330 liters (fortunately, the compartment itself is quite convenient in shape). The situation is saved by the rear sofa folding in two sections (in the ratio "60:40"), which forms an almost flat platform, which significantly expands the cargo capabilities of the cross-hatch.
Specifications
In the Russian market, a Chinese pseudo-crossover is offered with a single gasoline engine - an in-line four-cylinder "aspirated" with a working volume of 1.8 liters with distributed fuel injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, which generates 133 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm.
By default, the engine mates with a 6-speed "mechanics" and front-wheel drive transmission, but as an option, it relies on a 6-band Getrag "robot" with two dry clutches.
From standstill to 100 km / h, the five-door is accelerated after 10.3 seconds (with both gearboxes), and reaches a maximum of 180-185 km / h.
In the combined driving mode, the car "eats" on average 6.9 liters of fuel for every "hundred" of the run, regardless of the modification.
It is worth noting that in other countries, the cross-hatchback is also equipped with gasoline turbo engines - this is a 1.4-liter unit that generates 141 hp. and 235 Nm, and a 1.5-liter "four", which produces 177 hp. and 255 Nm. In this case, the first option is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or variator, and the second - with a 7-band "robot".
Design features
At the heart of the Geely GS is a front-wheel drive bogie called the FE, known from other models of the Chinese brand. The front axle of the car is equipped with independent suspension based on MacPherson struts, and its rear wheels are attached to the body through a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam.
All wheels of the SUV are equipped with disc brakes, ventilated in the front, which are assisted by ABS, EBD and other "gadgets". The car uses a rack-and-pinion steering complex: on versions with an atmospheric engine, it is supplemented with a hydraulic power steering, and with a turbo engine - an electric one.
Options and prices
On the Russian market, Geely GS can be purchased in only two trim levels - "Comfort" and "Luxury".
The basic version with 6MKPP will cost from 1,299,990 rubles, and the list of its equipment includes: two airbags, air conditioning with automatic temperature control, an audio system with six speakers, ABS, ESP, heated front seats, rear parking sensors, keyless entry system , 17-inch alloy wheels, power windows for all doors and some other equipment.
The same version, but with a "robot", costs from 1,399,990 rubles, and its functionality additionally includes an electromechanical "handbrake" with an automatic hold function and cruise control.
"Top" equipment is offered only with a "robotic" transmission at a price of 1,499,990 rubles, and it can boast: six airbags, a media center with an 8-inch screen, an electric driver's seat and folding exterior mirrors, 18-inch alloy wheels, a camera rear view, two-tone imitation leather interior and panoramic roof.
