The five-door Skoda Octavia liftback of the first generation made its world debut in the fall of 1996 at the Paris show of the auto industry, becoming the first car of the company created under the patronage of the German concern Volkswagen.

In 2000, the Czechs modernized their "brainchild", and they worked not only on the exterior and interior, but also on the technical component. Since 2004, the production of the car with the "Tour" prefix continued in parallel with the model of the second incarnation and was carried out until 2010.

The "first" Skoda Octavia in the body design, the liftback is a representative of the "small middle class", which measures 4507 mm in length, 1431 mm in height and 1731 mm in width. The car has a 2512 mm wheelbase and ground clearance, which, depending on the modification, ranges from 134 to 160 mm.

"Octavia" of the original generation meets the widest range of power plants:

  • The petrol "team" includes four-cylinder engines (atmospheric and turbocharged) with a volume of 1.4-2.0 liters, equipped with distributed "power", which are armed with 75-150 "stallions" and 126-210 Nm of torque.
  • The diesel part consists of 1.9-liter "fours" (both turbocharged and without it) with an 8-valve configuration and battery injection, the return of which reaches 68-130 horsepower and 133-310 Nm of peak torque.

In the arsenal of transmissions - 5- or 6-speed "manual" gearboxes, as well as a 4-band "automatic".

Almost all versions are driven by the front axle wheels, and the all-wheel drive technology with a multi-plate clutch at the rear is mated exclusively to a 150-horsepower engine.

The first "release" of the liftback is built on a "bogie" called "PQ34" with an independent suspension of the MacPherson type and a semi-independent torsion beam front and rear, respectively (on the "top" versions in the second case, a multi-link system is used).
The machine is equipped with a rack and pinion steering center and hydraulic booster. The front brakes of the five-door are ventilated discs, and the rear brakes (depending on the version) are drum or conventional discs.

The positive features of the "first" Skoda Octavia include: affordable content, reliable design, confident behavior on the road, high build quality, ergonomic and practical interior, good handling and other points.
Opposed to advantages: not the most spacious gallery in the class, harsh suspension, bad head light and high appetite.
