The sixth series of the Jaguar XJ luxury sedan with the factory code “X308” was officially presented in July 1997, but if outwardly it was not much different from its predecessor, it had a completely new interior, lost a manual transmission and was significantly transformed in technical terms. The car was produced at the company's English plant in Coventry until December 2003 (circulation during this period was just over 126 thousand units), after which a completely new model entered the market.

The 6th generation "IK-Jay" is a "player" in the class of full-size cars. In its lineup there are two modifications - with a standard or increased distance between the axes. The total length of the sedan is 5000-5100 mm, of which the wheelbase occupies 2800-2900 mm, the height is 1300 mm, and the width is 1800 mm. In the "traveling" form, the "Briton" weighs from 1710 to 1875 kg, depending on the modification, and stretches over the roadway at a height of 110 mm (clearance).

Under the hood of the Jaguar XJ of the sixth series, you can find one of two gasoline atmospheric "eights" with a V-shaped configuration of "pots", a 32-valve timing and a distributed power system, working in combination with a 5-band "automatic" and rear-wheel drive. The "younger" version is a 3.2-liter unit producing 240 "horses" and 310 Nm of torque, the "senior" is a 4.0-liter engine, the performance of which is 284 forces and 375 Nm of maximum thrust.

As a "foundation" for the "sixth" Jaguar XJ, a rear-wheel drive platform with a power unit located longitudinally is used. The British sedan features independent front and rear suspension, with double wishbones and a stabilizer bar in the former, while wishbones, telescopic shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar.
The car has a steering complex with a rack and pinion mechanism and power steering, and its brake package includes ventilated discs on the front and rear wheels with ABS.

The car has a number of positive qualities - stylish appearance, powerful engines, excellent dynamics, high level of safety, reliable construction and stable behavior on the road.
But the owner and disappointment await - high fuel consumption, high maintenance costs and a small clearance under the bottom.

The sixth incarnation of "X-Jay" is available on the secondary market in Russia at a price of 400,000 to 1,300,000 rubles (but sometimes the numbers go beyond this).
