The second chapter in the history of the Dodge Viper began in 1996, when the next generation model was released, which, in fact, was a greatly improved version of the two-door of the original generation. Throughout its existence, the supercar was slightly updated several times, receiving new equipment, and was mass-produced until 2002, after which it gave way to the assignee on the conveyor.
The second generation Viper was available in two body modifications - the RT / 10 two-door roadster and the GTS two-door coupe.
Depending on the solution, the total length of the car is 4448-4490 mm, of which 2445 mm is the distance between the wheel sets, the height is 1120-1195 mm, and the ground clearance is 125-127 mm.
But the width is unchanged in all situations - 1925 mm. The curb weight of the supercar varies from 1560 to 1580 kg.
Specifications. The engine compartment of the "second" Dodge Viper was filled with an 8.0-liter gasoline "aspirated" with ten V-shaped cylinders, an aluminum block, multi-point injection and a lubrication system with a "dry" sump, generating 450 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 664 Nm of torque moment at 3700 rpm.
In tandem with the engine, a manual transmission with six gears and a rear-wheel drive transmission worked.
Depending on the version of the body, the car covered the starting spurt to the first "hundred" in 4-4.5 seconds, gained 290-298 km / h "maximum speed" and, on average, "ate" 20 liters of fuel in the mixed driving mode.
The base for the second generation Viper is a rear-wheel drive bogie with a powertrain longitudinally based in the front, a steel tube frame and fiberglass body panels.
The suspension on the car is completely independent - both front and rear on double, transverse levers, with coil springs and an anti-roll bar.
The steering mechanism is endowed with a rack and pinion structure, in which a hydraulic booster is integrated, and ventilated disc brakes with ABS are installed on all wheels.
The distinctive features of the car can be considered impressive appearance, high-performance engine, good dynamics, reliable design and exclusivity.
In contrast to them, there are high costs (especially in our country), expensive maintenance, high fuel consumption and a rather archaic interior.
Prices. For the "second" Dodge Viper in the secondary market of Russia in 2015, you will have to pay at least 2 million rubles, although there are also more expensive copies.
