At the May Auto Show in the Korean city of Busan, which took place in 2012, SsangYong presented to the public a restyled version of the second-generation Rexton mid-size SUV with the letter index "W", and its European premiere took place a few months later at the international Moscow show. Compared to its predecessor, the car has noticeably changed outside and inside, received new equipment, an upgraded rear multi-link and other technical improvements.

At the beginning of 2015, SsangYong Rexton W went through the "first stage" of the update - it was separated by a slightly redrawn exterior, a modified steering wheel and previously inaccessible "chips" like ventilated seats and xenon optics.

In December, the car received a "second package" of improvements, which has already affected not only the functionality, but also the technical part - a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel was added, producing 178 "horses", and a 7-speed "automatic" from Mercedes-Benz (albeit up to Such SUVs have not yet reached Russia).

A massive and presentable SUV with a monumental, but somewhat awkward appearance - with all its appearance, the SsangYong Rexton hints at the wealth of the owner and at the same time fits organically into the current automotive landscape. The athletic and stately body is crowned with nice lighting equipment with LED elements, a huge "shield" of the radiator grille and embossed contours of the wheel arches, which makes the "Korean" look not only impressive, but also very cute.

The Rexton is 4755 mm long, its width does not exceed 1900 mm, its height is 1840 mm (without roof rails - 1760 mm), and the wheelbase is 2835 mm of the overall length. The minimum ground clearance for SUVs with a dependent rear suspension is 206 mm, and with an independent one - 247 mm.

The interior of SsangYong Rexton W with its design returns to the end of the XX century - chopped-hewn outlines, which are everywhere covered in hard plastic, diluted with decorative inserts for "metal" and "wood". And the design clearly does not correspond to the flagship status of the car - a massive four-spoke "steering wheel" with control elements, an uncomplicated and archaic "instrument panel", as well as a simple console in the center of the front panel, decorated with an old-fashioned digital clock, radio tape recorder and semi-oval air conditioning unit.

Although the restyling of 2015 somewhat corrects the situation, in general, the interior, to put it mildly, has remained "classic".

Inside "Rexton" there is a real expanse, both in front and behind. For the driver and his "co-driver" there are hospitable seats with a wide profile, almost completely devoid of lateral support, and large ranges for settings.

The second row of seats is no less comfortable - a sufficient supply of space in all directions, an adjustable backrest and an almost absent floor tunnel.

The luggage compartment of the SsangYong Rexton W is roomy - 678 liters of usable volume in the standard position. The rear sofa either folds completely, or only its backs are removed in a 2: 3 ratio, but a flat platform is not obtained in both cases, but the maximum capacity increases to 1524 liters.

The compact "spare wheel" is mounted under the bottom in order to save space.

Specifications. On the Russian market, Rexton is offered with three diesel engines, two gearboxes and four types of drive.

  • At the base, the SUV is equipped with a 2.0-liter D20DT in-line four-cylinder engine, equipped with a turbocharger, multi-point Common Rail fuel injection and a vibration and noise reduction system and producing 155 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 360 Nm of peak thrust at 1500-2800 rpm ...
    It works in conjunction with a 6-speed "mechanics" or 5-band "automatic" T-Tronic, rear drive wheels or all-wheel drive transmission of the "Part-time" type with rigidly activated front end and three modes of operation.
    Depending on the modification, the SUV covers the segment from 0 to 100 km / h in 13.4-14 seconds and peaks at 173-175 km / h. Passport consumption of "diesel fuel" - 7.2-7.6 liters in the combined cycle.
  • Intermediate versions of the SsangYong Rexton W are equipped with an inline 2.7-liter D27DTP turbocharged five-cylinder with Common Rail injection technology, the output of which is 165 mares at 4000 rpm and 345 Nm of torque at 1800-3250 rpm.
    The engine is combined with an “automatic” for five gears and an automatically connected all-wheel drive TOD with three modes of operation (by default, all traction goes to the rear axle, but if necessary, up to 50% is transferred to the front end).
    The maximum such car accelerates to 170 km / h, gaining the first "hundred" in 14.4 seconds, and consumes 9.8 liters of fuel in the combined mode.
  • The "top" cars are equipped with a 2.7-liter D27DTR five-cylinder unit, which has a variable geometry turbocharger and a Common Rail power system. It generates 186 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 402 Nm of torque at 1600-3000 rpm.
    In the "partners" he is assigned the automatic transmission T-Tronic and permanent all-wheel drive with a planetary differential, which distributes the potential in the ratio "40 to 60" in favor of the rear axle.
    After 11.3 seconds, such a "Rexton" accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h, its peak capacity falls at 181 km / h, and the fuel "appetite" is fixed at 9.2 liters in mixed conditions.

The base for the SsangYong Rexton W is a spar-type steel frame with a three-layer structure, on which the power unit is mounted longitudinally. At the front of the SUV, an independent suspension on wishbones with telescopic shock absorbers is used, and at the rear on cars with Part-time and TOD - a dependent continuous axle, with AWD - an independent 8-link architecture.
The rack and pinion steering is equipped with hydraulic power steering, and all wheels are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle) with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the 2015-2016 SsangYong Rexton W is sold in six equipment levels - Original, Comfort +, Elegance, Elegance Family, Luxury and Luxury Family.
The most affordable option is estimated at 1,579,000 rubles, for which you get four airbags, ABS, ESP, 16-inch alloy wheels, "climate", heated front and rear seats, power accessories, standard audio preparation and fog lights.
"Top" equipment costs a minimum of 2,329,990 rubles, and its arsenal also includes a multifunction steering wheel, an audio system, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rain and light sensors, an electric sunroof, 18-inch wheels and much more.
