At the international New York exhibition of the automotive industry in April 2011, the Subaru Impreza of the next, third in order, generation appeared before the general public, the forerunner of which in the person of the Impreza Design Concept was demonstrated in November 2010 at a bride show in Los Angeles.

Compared to the previous model, the "Japanese" got a new design, an expanded list of equipment and technical improvements.

In the summer of 2014, the car left the Russian market, and in September of the same year it underwent a small update, which made changes to the exterior, interior and functionality, but left out the "stuffing". At the end of 2016, his era will end - it is then that the car of the fifth incarnation will appear on sale.

Calling "Impreza" a beauty is hardly possible - it looks ordinary and calm within its class: a slightly frowned pretty "face", a harmonious silhouette with "puffy" wheel arches and an unremarkable stern with nondescript lanterns. In general, the perception of the car depends on the angles: from some "Japanese" is good and daring, and from others - puffy and passive.

The fourth "release" Subaru Impreza acts in the C-class according to European standards, is offered in body modifications sedan (GJ) and five-door hatchback (GP) and reaches 4580 mm in length, 1465 mm in height and 1740 mm in width. The front and rear axles are separated from each other by 2645 mm, and the bottom is removed from the roadway by 145 mm ground clearance.

The interior of "Impreza" attracts attention with its simplicity of forms and accuracy of execution, but bright ideas are completely absent in it - the instrument cluster is logical and not overloaded with information, the steering wheel is comfortable and pleasant to look at, and the front panel is nice and functional. A multifunctional display of the on-board computer is hidden under the visor at the top of the center console, and a little below the blocks of the infotainment complex and the climate system are correctly arranged. The interior materials are mostly solid, and the build quality is excellent.

The passenger compartment is spacious for riders in both rows of seats. The front seats are hospitably profiled and filled with padding that is optimal in terms of rigidity, but they are not conducive to active driving due to the widely spaced side bolsters. The rear sofa is free even for adults, but a floor tunnel will interfere with the central passenger.

The cargo compartment of the "fourth" Subaru Impreza is covered with a pile covering and is endowed with a convenient configuration. The sedan's trunk fits 460 liters of luggage, and the hatchback's - from 380 to 1270 liters. "Gallery" is folded in two parts into a flat rookery, and a full-fledged "spare wheel" is based underground.

Specifications. "Impreza" of the fourth generation is equipped with gasoline boxer "fours" of the FB family, which have a distributed fuel supply, a 16-valve timing chain with a chain drive and phase shifters at the inlet and outlet.

  • On the "younger" versions, the engine compartment is filled with a 1.6-liter engine, developing 114 "stallions" at 5600 rpm and 150 Nm of ultimate thrust at 4000 rpm. It is equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics" or an infinitely variable Lineartronic variator with seven virtual gears and a "manual" mode, front or all-wheel drive.
  • "Older" modifications "flaunt" a 2.0-liter engine, the potential of which does not exceed 150 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. With it, in combination, a "mechanic" for six gears or a variator and an exclusively all-wheel drive transmission are installed.

The type of all-wheel drive in Subaru Impreza depends on the gearbox: "mechanical" cars have a symmetrical center differential locked by a clutch, and "automatic" cars have a multi-plate clutch, which is electronically activated and distributes the torque in a 60/40 ratio as standard.

Agility "Japanese" does not shine: the car is gaining maximum 179-197 km / h, and exchanges the first "hundred" after 10.5-12.6 seconds. In mixed driving conditions, its fuel consumption varies from 5.8 to 7.9 liters per 100 km.

"Impreza" of the fourth generation is located on a modified platform of its predecessor with a monocoque body made of high-strength grades of steel and a power unit installed longitudinally. The chassis of the car is independent front and rear - MacPherson struts and four-link architecture, respectively.
Electric power steering is integrated into the rack and pinion steering system of the compact model. The wheels of the car are enclosed by disc brakes, supplemented by ventilation on the front axle, which are assisted by BAS, ABS, EBD and other electronics.

Options and prices. In the Russian market, the "fourth" Subaru Impreza was not popular due to its high cost, which is why it is rarely found in the secondary market, and for a lot of money - in 2016 it is from 700,000-750,000 rubles and even more expensive.
In all trim levels, the car “flaunts” six airbags, a climate system, ABS, ESP, 16-inch wheel disks, heated front seats, four power windows, factory “music” with six columns, hill start assist technology and other equipment.
