The first generation Renault Twingo subcompact hatchback made its official debut in the fall of 1992 at the Paris Motor Show, and went on sale in the European market only in April 1993, where it immediately gained great popularity.

Over the course of its existence, the city car was updated three times (in 1998, 2000 and 2004), and was mass-produced until 2007 (although in Colombia it kept on the assembly line until 2012).

"Twino" of the original generation is a three-door hatch of the "A" segment according to the European classification, which stretches 3430 mm in length, 1420 mm in height and 1630 mm in width.

The pairs of wheels of the small car are spaced from each other at a distance of 2347 mm, and its ground clearance is 120 mm. The "travel" weight of the "Frenchman" varies from 790 to 890 kg, depending on the version.

For the "first" Renault Twingo, only gasoline "aspirated" was provided - they were in-line "fours" with a volume of 1.1-1.2 liters with multipoint injection and an 8-valve timing, generating 55-75 horsepower and 93-107 Nm of torque potential.

In the arsenal of transmissions - 5-speed "mechanics", 3-band "automatic" and 5-speed "robot" (drive - no alternative, front).

At the heart of the "Twino" of the first embodiment is a front-wheel drive "bogie" with a power unit transversely installed in the front part. The front wheels of the car are attached to the body by means of an independent suspension of the McPherson type, while the rear wheels rest on a semi-independent torsion beam architecture.
The small car is equipped with a steering complex with a hydraulic power steering, and its braking potential is represented by disc devices in the front and simple "drums" in the back.

The first "release" Renault Twingo is rare, but found in the Russian open spaces. The advantages of the hatch are a pretty design, reliable construction, economical engines, a roomy interior (especially considering the external dimensions), good handling and high-quality assembly.
The car is not devoid of negative aspects - poor sound insulation, low ground clearance, weak frontal light and lack of spare parts.
