In 1998, the American SUV manufacturer Jeep introduced the world to the second generation of the Grand Cherokee, which received the factory designation "WJ". The car added in size, got a more "smoothed" body design and lost versions with "mechanics", but at the same time got a new line of power units. The production of the model officially ceased in 2004, but in 2006 its production was resumed at the Chinese enterprise Beijing Jeep and continued until 2010.

The second generation car is a five-door mid-size SUV.

The length of the "American" is 4610 mm, of which 2691 mm is allocated for the distance between the axles, the height reaches 1762 mm, and the width does not exceed 1836 mm. The bottom of the road is separated by a solid gap of 210 mm. The curb weight of the "second Grand Cherokee", depending on the version, is from 1710 to 1940 kg.

The "second" Jeep Grand Cherokee was equipped with a range of efficient engines running on both gasoline and diesel fuel.

  • The petrol side combines inline-six and V-eight naturally aspirated units of 4.0-4.7 liters that generate 190 to 258 horsepower and 305 to 425 Nm of torque.
  • It was equipped with an off-road vehicle and turbocharged diesel "fives" with an in-line configuration of 2.7-3.1 liters, developing from 140 to 163 "horses" and from 384 to 400 Nm of ultimate thrust.

Together with the engines, only automatic transmissions worked - 4- or 5-speed.

The drive was available both rear and full with a transfer case and a limited slip differential in the rear axle (by default, the car is rear-wheel drive, the front is connected automatically).

Jeep Grand Cherokee of the 2nd generation is based on the WJ platform with a frame body and dependent suspension (continuous axle, coil springs) on both axles. The standard equipment of all modifications of the SUV includes hydraulic power steering and disc brakes on four wheels (ventilated on the front).

The positive features of this car include a decent supply of traction, soft suspension with long strokes, good cross-country ability, comfortable interior, ease of operation and fairly affordable service.
Well, among the shortcomings are high fuel consumption, instability of behavior on the track and poor sound insulation of the interior decoration.
