The second generation Subaru Outback appeared in 2000, and it was created in the same simple way as its predecessor. However, the car has already been singled out as an independent model, having lost the word "Legacy" in the title. The life cycle of the Japanese off-road vehicle lasted until 2006, after which the next generation Outback was released to conquer world markets.

The second generation car was still a European Class D car and was offered in station wagon and sedan bodies (for the USA only). The total length of the 2nd generation Subaru Outback is 4685-4720 mm, of which 2650 mm is occupied by the wheelbase, the width is 1745 mm, and the height is 1480-1580 mm. In addition to this, in the arsenal of the "Japanese" there is a solid ground clearance - 190-200 mm.

Power range "Outback" of the 2nd generation combined two gasoline "aspirated":

  • The "younger" engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder "boxer", producing 156 horsepower and 223 Nm of torque.
  • The "senior" unit is a 3.0-liter "six" with horizontally opposed cylinder configuration, "releasing" a herd of 209 "mares" and 285 Nm of peak thrust.

There are two gearboxes - “mechanics” with five steps and “automatic” with four ranges. In the first case, the car is equipped with a permanent all-wheel drive with a viscous coupling and a range-multiplier, in the second - a transmission with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch.

The "second" Subaru Outback is based on the Legacy of the third generation with independent running gear on both axles - the classic MacPherson struts at the front and "multi-link" at the rear. The car's arsenal includes a hydraulic power steering and an effective braking system with disc devices "in a circle" and ABS.

In 2017, in the secondary market of the Russian Federation, such a car can be purchased at a price of 250 ~ 300 thousand rubles.

Among the pleasant features of the "second Outback" are high-torque engines, high ground clearance, all-wheel drive transmission, energy-intensive suspension, spacious comfortable interior and a capacious luggage compartment.

But the car also has disadvantages, including: a thoughtful "automatic", high cost of original spare parts and high gas mileage.
