The GAC Trumpchi GS3 is a front-wheel-drive five-door crossover in the subcompact category that boasts pretty styling, decent technology and a good level of equipment (for quite a reasonable price) ... It is positioned (at least by the automaker itself) as a "fashionable and sporty SUV, addressed to young married couples who live in large cities "(however, the target audience of the car is not strictly limited only to this framework) ...
The full-scale debut of this off-road vehicle took place in August 2017 at the auto show in the Chinese city of Chengdu, and later it was demonstrated at two more international auto exhibitions: in January 2018 in Detroit and in August of the same year, but already in Moscow.
The car, "painted" under the leadership of the chief designer of the brand Rick Chen (formerly working in the American studio of Acura), received an attractive exterior and interior design, "armed" with modern technical "stuffing" and received a long list of available options.
Outwardly, the GAC GS3 looks rather conservative, but at the same time it is cute, proportionate and relevant (almost all the laws of the current "crossover genre" are caught in its outlines).
The front of the five-door is decorated with expressive headlights, visually combined with a chrome grille, and a raised bumper with a silver trim at the bottom, and its stern flaunts stylish lights with unusual triangular sections and a pair of "cheeky" exhaust pipes integrated into the bumper.
From the side, the car attracts the eye with a dynamic silhouette with a fashionable "floating" roof and a soaring sill line, which is successfully complemented by energetic "splashes" on the sides, the correct flourishes of the wheel arches and small overhangs.
The overall length of the GAC Trumpchi GS3 is 4350 mm, its width does not exceed 1825 mm, and its height is 1680 mm. The wheelbase of the five-door is 2560 mm, and its ground clearance is 183 mm.
When equipped, the car weighs from 1315 to 1380 kg (depending on the modification).
The interior of the subcompact crossover looks attractive, fresh and soundly - a "plump" multi-steering wheel with pronounced tides in the correct grip area, a stylish and informative "instrument panel" with a pair of analog dials and a colored "window" between them, a laconic center console topped with 8- inch touchscreen media center, vertical ventilation deflectors and a distinctive air conditioning unit.
Inside, the car "flaunts" well-thought-out ergonomics and good workmanship.
Salon GAC Trumpchi GS3 has a five-seat layout. Front riders are supposed to have seats with simple side support bolsters and a large number of adjustments (including height). On the second row there is an almost flat floor, a welcoming sofa and a sufficient supply of space for three adult passengers.
In the normal state, the trunk of an SUV can "absorb" 370 liters of luggage and has a comfortable shape. The rear sofa is folded in a pair of asymmetric sections (in the ratio "60:40"), as a result of which a flat surface is not formed, but the usable volume increases to 780 liters. Nominally, the car relies on a spare wheel and a minimum set of tools.
Two four-cylinder petrol engines are offered for the GAC GS3:
- By default, the crossover is equipped with a 1.5-liter "aspirated" with multi-point fuel injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve timing structure that develops 114 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm.
- More powerful versions contain a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine with a distributed "power" system, 16 valves and phase shifters at the inlet and outlet, which produces 137 hp. at 5500 rpm and 202 Nm of rotational potential at 1500-4200 rpm.
The "junior" unit is docked with a 5-speed "mechanics" or an optional 6-range "automatic" Aisin with a torque converter, while the "senior" is assigned exclusively to an automatic transmission (drive - front only).
The GAC Trumpchi GS3 is based on a front-wheel drive architecture with a transversely oriented motor, and the power structure of its monocoque body consists of high-strength steel grades.
The car is equipped with an independent MacPherson-type suspension at the front, and a semi-independent system with a twisting beam (in both cases with transverse stabilizers) at the rear.
The crossover is equipped with rack and pinion steering and electric power steering. All five-door wheels are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle) with ABS, EBD and other modern assistants.
In the Chinese market, the GAC Trumpchi GS3 is offered at a price of 73,800 yuan (~ 740 thousand rubles) - so much will have to be paid for the version with a 1.5-liter engine and "mechanics".
By default, the SUV is equipped with: front airbags, ABS, four power windows, 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, standard audio system, heated front seats, electric drive and heated exterior mirrors, central locking and other equipment.
A crossover with 6АКПП costs from 84,800 yuan (~ 850 thousand rubles), the version with a turbo engine will cost from 96,800 yuan (~ 970 thousand rubles), and the "top modification" cannot be bought cheaper than 116,800 (~ 1,169 thousand rubles) ...
