The development of a new car at the "Gorky Automobile Plant" began by the end of the 30s of the last century - it was then that the Soviet industry reached the level that allowed developing its own models. But active work on the passenger car, which later received the name GAZ M-20 "Pobeda", was launched at the beginning of 1943, and already in June 1945 it was presented to the highest state and party leadership of the USSR.

The car entered the series in the summer of 1946, but it turned out to be "raw", which is why it underwent two upgrades in the future: in 1948, the equipment was radically improved, and in 1955, the appearance was improved, new equipment was added and the engine was slightly "pumped" ... life path "four-door completed in 1958, and its circulation exceeded 240 thousand copies.

GAZ M-20 "Pobeda" is a "representative" of the middle class and is found in two body solutions: a four-door fastback sedan and a cabriolet sedan with hard roll bars and a soft convertible top.

In length, the car extends to 4665 mm, its height fits into 1590-1640 mm, and the width and wheelbase are respectively 1695 mm and 2700 mm. The clearance of the "twenty" is 200 mm, and the mass in "combat" form ranges from 1460 to 1490 kg, depending on the version.

Specifications. The Pobeda was set in motion by an atmospheric gasoline "four" with a volume of 2.1 liters (2112 cubic centimeters) with carburetor injection, 8 valves and air cooling, the potential of which reached 52 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 127 Nm of torque at 2200 rpm / minute.
With the rear wheels, she had a connection through a 3-speed manual transmission.

From a standstill to 50 km / h, the "U-Twenty" accelerated in just 12 seconds, but the acceleration to "hundreds" took 46 seconds. The maximum speed of the car did not exceed 105 km / h, and the fuel consumption was 13.5 liters in mixed mode.

The body of the GAZ M-20 "Pobeda" is an all-metal, bearing type, consisting of a steel frame, amplifiers and external panels, and a subframe is attached to it in front, on which the suspension, engine and steering are installed.
An independent spring-lever structure is used on the front axle of the car, and a dependent arrangement on longitudinal semi-elliptical springs is used on the rear axle. The braking system of the four-door is hydraulic, with drum devices on all wheels, and the steering complex is of the "globoidal worm" type with a double roller.

The advantages of the car are classic appearance, strong and reliable construction, high maintainability, attention and respect on the road, and other points.
But it also has disadvantages - a low-power engine for such a mass, high fuel consumption and difficulties in finding original spare parts.

Prices. In the secondary market of Russia, "Pobeda" is quite common, and prices for it in 2017 start at 70-75 thousand rubles (while the cost of individual copies exceeds 2 million rubles).
